Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin has 3 entrances, two of them with a registration centre:

Saint-Michel Sector

The Saint-Michel Registration Centre (from Joliette via Route 131 North to Saint-Michel-des-Saints). In Saint-Michel-des-Saints, take Rue St-Michel on your right just before the church. Continue 26 km to the registration centre.

L'Ascension Sector

To reach the Ascension entrance, take Highway 15 North and then Route 117. At the second traffic circle on Route 117, turn right onto Route 321 (Chemin Mullen) and head to the town of L’Ascension. When you arrive there, you will see Garage Crevier on your left. Cross the bridge over Rivière Rouge and turn left immediately onto Chemin des Îles. Follow this road all the way to the reserve. From that point, take Route 47 Nord, a gravel road.

Note: a new territory warden cabin has been set up at the entrance of the L'Ascension sector. You can pick up your access rights there.

La Macaza Sector

For La Macaza Registration Centre, take highway 15 North and Route 117 North to Labelle. Take exit 143. Turn right on Chemin Augustin-Lauzon and then turn right onto Boulevard Curé-Labelle. Then turn left on Rue du Pont in the downtown area and turn left on Rue de la Gare toward La Macaza. Drive through La Macaza and keep going straight ahead for 16 km. The registration centre is located at 4 km. 

The registration centres are open from mid-May to mid-November. The hours vary according to the seasons.

Opening periods of the registration centres:

  • May 12 to September 4, 2023 (Saint-Michel and La Macaza)
    • Saturday to Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • September 5 to October 29, 2023 (Saint-Michel)
    • Saturday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • September 5 to November 21, 2023 (La Macaza)
    • Saturday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

How to use MicroSD files for Garmin GPS

Please follow these steps to copy the GPS file on your MicroSD card:

•  Download the GPS file.
•  Save the file on your workstation.
•  Decompress the*.zip file.
•  Insert the MicroSD card into your computer, perhaps with the help of an adapter.
•  Copy the Garmin folder on your MicroSD card.
•  Withdraw the MicroSD card from your computer.
•  Insert the MicroSD card into your Garmin GPS.

Important: Please do not change the name of the directory or of the file; otherwise your GPS will be unable to read the document. The MicroSD card can hold only one GPS file. Use is reserved for Garmin GPS only.
