Canoe camping is an activity undertaken in natural environments far from emergency services. You must ensure that you have the required skills and abilities as well as the appropriate equipment to practice this activity.
Canoeing at Baie Sauvage involves some risks; the presence of motorboats, high winds, and surging waves could surprise you. Your luggage should be securely attached inside your watercraft so that you don't lose anything if you capsize. Although small watercraft have precedence over motorboats, don’t cross in front of these motorized craft. We recommend that you check the weather conditions before you leave and delay your departure rather than venture into hazardous navigation conditions.
Avoid overloading your watercraft. You should leave at least 18 cm of freeboard (space between the water level and the lowest part of the canoe edge). Your craft must be stable.
Navigate in daylight and always close to shore. Wear a life jacket.
As bad weather approaches, move closer to shore as the wind can change quickly and create large waves within minutes.
