Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle

Small game hunting is available by the day. Hunters must purchase their right of access online or at a registration centre. The species you can hunt are Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and snowshoe hare. Hunting is permitted throughout the whole wildlife reserve. 

Periods:

• September 2 to 15, 2024 and September 1 to 14, 2025

• October 11 to 27, 2024 and October 10 to 26, 2025

• November 17, 2024 to January 15, 2025 and November 16, 2025 to January 15, 2026
  • During this period, the wildlife reserve registration centres will be closed. You can purchase your rights of access online. Also note that the roads are not maintained in case of snow accumulation.

For lovers of canoe-camping, the reserve can offer lake-to-lake canoe routes, whitewater canoeing down Rivière du Sourd, and campgrounds accessible by water. To find out more, go to Accommodations - Canoe-Camping.

Make sure to bring life jackets that are suitable for children, along with your boating safety kit. Rental equipment available on-site.

Fishing buffs are attracted by the variety of species in the lakes and rivers of Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle. Speckled trout, lake trout, splake, rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, bass, walleye, arctic char and pike are found in over 700 bodies of water. Gas motors (max. 15 hp) are allowed. We strongly suggest washing your motor. Motors are available for rent.

To prevent the spread of Eurasian water-milfoil (exotic invasive plant), personal watercraft are prohibited on the lakes. They are only allowed on lakes reserved for adventure fishing. This measure does not apply to canoes, kayaks and inflatable boats inflated on site.

Book

Over 600 lakes are available for adventure fishing buffs (map, compass, GPS) who have a boat or who fish with waders. We have very little information about the fishing potential of these lakes, on how to get to them and on the trails conditions. Fishing access rights can be issued 48 h in advance throughout the season. To reserve, call one of our registration centres. The wildlife reserve can mail the access rights to you. This way, you won’t have to stop at the registration centre before going fishing.

Book

With the fishing-camping option, available at Lac Joinville and Lac Écho, you can enjoy your favourite activity while staying at a campsite. Go for the package deal, including campsite, boat, and fishing access rights, to introduce your children or friends to fishing at a reduced rate.

More than 60 kilometres of easy and intermediate trails are available for short hikes. On these trails, you'll discover flora and fauna and views of the reserve's lakes and hills.

An observation tower has been installed at Lac Lanthier to allow visitors to watch duck and deer species.

There is an abundance of raspberries over the entire territory of Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle.

Hundreds of kilometres of forest roads and trails cover Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle and facilitate access to prized species such as the Ruffed Grouse and the snowshoe hare. You can also hunt migratory birds if you hold a migratory bird hunting licence in addition to a small game hunting licence.

Important
From the second Monday of October, the water is cut off in certain cabins due to risk of freezing. During this time, these cabins are offered at 30% off. This discount cannot be combined with any other promotion.

Documentation

Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle is part of provincial hunting zone 10. Moose hunting in the wildlife reserves is limited by quotas and subject to random draws. The territory is divided into eighty hunting sectors.

There is a high success rate for deer hunting at Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle. White-tailed deer hunting is regulated and subject to draw. There are approximately 80 hunting sectors.

Family hunting packages under the European plan are offered by random draw at 25% off the regular price for the whole group of hunters. To enter, at least one hunter must be a child 12 to 17 years old and have a hunter's certificate.

A family package for 2 adults and their children under 18 is available  from early July to early September.

At All Times

Children under 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, based on the following criteria:

• 2 children for 5 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 6 or more adults.

Children under the age of 18 are lodged for free in relation to the number of adults at the time of reservation, according  to the following criteria:

• 2 children for 5 or fewer adults
• 4 children for 6 or more adults.

Children under 18 accompanied by an adult who holds a right of access for day fishing may fish free of charge.

Des Cheminots campground in the wildlife reserves allow young people to camp for a modest fee of $8/person/night.

Children under 18 accompanied by an adult can go canoe-camping free of charge.
